An all-levels hatha vinyasa flow class sequenced to build strength, improve posture, and cultivate peace. Expect some longer pose holds to challenge your awareness and focus. Each class will finish with a restorative period for relaxation.
Open Vinyasa with Live Music
This all-levels hatha vinyasa practice leaves more space in the instruction to breathe and feel to live instrumentation by Benjamin Smielowitz (studio owner). Benjamin offers meditative, instrumental guitar music to help students hone their capacity to listen (inwardly as well as outwardly) and connect to an intuitive, feeling-based awareness in their practice. He plays acoustic guitar and harmonium with ambient effects. Class begins and ends music meditation in which to take in the resonance of sound and practice.
Build a solid foundation in the basic poses. Level 1 classes are appropriate for those who are newer to yoga, beginners as well as continuing students who are looking to refine their experience of the core poses. Classes emphasize standing poses, basic sun salutations, gentle backbends and twists, and preparation for inversions. Classes emphasize developing strength, flexibility, and ease in the body in order to quiet the mind.
At a slow to moderate pace, Level 1/2 classes are for everybody including beginners, who already lead an active lifestyle. Includes clear instruction on proper alignment, while slowly introducing more challenging postures and sequences that utilize breath-to-movement flow. In this class, students build their strength and stamina, expand their repertoire of yoga poses and get introduced to yoga philosophy.
Deepen your practice and challenge yourself physically and mentally. For more experienced practitioners, Level 2 classes work from a base of vigorous sun salutations to explore more challenging variations of poses, including arm balances, deeper twist variations, standing balance poses, inversions, and backbends. Breathwork and meditation may also be explored. Proficiency with foundational yoga poses, and familiarity with backbends and inversions recommended.
You’re a Level 2 or a Level 3 student, or somewhere in between. This is a mixed level class that gives you a challenge when you want one. Variations and modifications offered by the teacher will allow you to practice at your own individual level while keeping with the class flow and energy.
You have a strong, ongoing practice. Here you’ll get more challenging poses and techniques for approaching poses, deeper variations and dynamic sequences. You’ll explore subtler aspects of yoga and yogic practices (bandhas, pranayama, chanting, mudra, restorative, therapeutic, etc).
Slow down and reap the rewards of a gentle approach to yoga. This class moves at a slower pace to allow for an increased emphasis on breathing and quieting of body and mind. Practiced primarily in seated, reclining, and supine positions, gentle yoga is appropriate for students of all levels, including those who are brand new to yoga, students who are recovering from injuries, as well as continuing yoga students seeking a more introspective practice
Flow & Restore
Flow & Restore is a combination class, starting with a slower paced vinyasa, followed by Yin (where you are holding poses longer) and restorative poses (supported by props). We will flow for half of class to warm the body up, then take the second part of class to use less muscle energy, and release deeper connective tissue, like ligaments, tendons and fascia. You will leave feeling relaxed, and your nervous system realigned.
Completely passive, no aggressive. A gentle, yet deep practice that opens the hips, legs and shoulders to alleviate stiffness and stress. This slower, meditative class uses bolsters, blankets, blocks and chairs to organize the body in a way that calms your nervous system and relaxes your entire being.
Yoga Nidra/Deep Relaxation
Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep and refers to the conscious awareness of the Deep Sleep state. In Yoga Nidra you leave the waking state, go past the dreaming state and then go to deep sleep, yet remain awake. The state of yoga nidra is deeply relaxing and rejuvenating. Time spend in yoga nidra opens us to deeper clarity. It is one of the deepest of all meditations, leading us to supreme stillness and insight.
This restorative “inner-body” yoga uses a series of guided visualizations and deep relaxation techniques to move beyond the conditioned mind into a state of expanded self-awareness. Access to the deeper realms of the mind allows us to release the sources of tension, anxiety, unwanted habits, and self-limiting beliefs and to awaken our greatest inner potential. Each class begins with 10 minutes of gentle, meditative asana, with the majority of the practice performed in savasana (corpse pose).
Maha Sadhana / 3 Hours class
Join Benjamin and Radha for this journey beginning with mantras, pranayama and exercises to open the third eye and introducing Sri Dharma Mittra's Shiva Namaskaras. The class will flow from the Salutations into the more meditative yogic postures as well as some deeper stretching, balancing and strengthening poses. The asanas will end with an extended guided deep relaxation, which will lead into meditation. The workshop ends with Sri Dharma Mittra's joyous asana and kirtan jam.
This class happens every 2 months and it is open to all yogis. Come and share this great knowledge with us.
It's never too early to start yoga! We offer KIDS YOGA the 1st Sunday of every month from 2-3P for ages 5-12. This class introduces wee ones to basic poses in a fun and healthy way. Yoga is beneficial for everyone and can be used to help improve all elements of life. We want our kids to identify how yoga is an amazing exercise on the mat, but something they can use off the mat at home and in school. Children will learn yoga poses and apply those poses to games and activities, while all the time learning to breathe. In 60 minutes, kids will be energized, sent to relaxing stillness and experience everything in between. These classes are drop off, but parents are welcome to stay if they want to check it out! No previous yoga experience required.
Explore ways to individualize your practice through a private lesson with one of Bloom's teachers. Private lessons allow you the time and individual attention to ask questions about a particular pose, work through challenges, and find modifications that are right for you as an individual. With the teacher's close attention on you in every pose, together you may discover something new that will help to refocus and refresh your practice. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org. Two people may also book a semi-private lesson together at a reduced rate.
